Evoking the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age;  Sunset Blvd is an homage to the interwoven relationship between Los Angeles’ oldest jeweler and it’s most notable industry; film making.  In the early 1930’s one of the Laykin Diamond Company’s most important patrons was Gloria Swanson. A titan of the silver screen.

One evening over dinner and cocktails at the La Quinta Resort in the Coachella Valley desert, Gloria whispered to her friend Sol Laykin, “the name of your company has no ‘ring’ to it” and suggested a rebrand to “Laykin et Cie”.  Laykin accepted, the name stuck and it’s first freestanding salon was opened on Sunset Blvd in 1932.  Gloria attended the grand opening.

Nearly 20 years later Gloria Swanson would star in the Oscar winning masterpiece directed by Billy Wilder, “Sunset Boulevard” forever imprinting the image of fictional faded silent film star Norma Desmond on the American cinematic consciousness.

Now 75 years after the premier of one of America’s finest films, Laykin et Cie releases “Sunset Blvd”.  A captivating pair of fragrances; an Eau de Parfum for women and a cologne for men. In keeping with Laykin et Cie’s first two fragrances “San Marino” (2020) and “Montecito” (2021) each 1^st edition is limited to 500 hand bottled flacons. Produced in France and bottled in Los Angeles.

The unique embossed label is a reproduction of a 1930’s Laykin et Cie advertisement which appeared in Playbill and other entertainment industry publications but with the addition of the fragrance’s name.
