At its heart, delicate hyacinth and rose intertwine with crisp apple, recalling the fragrant gardens and gentle ocean breezes of Montecito. A sophisticated foundation of cedarwood, woody amber, and soft musk lends warmth and quiet depth, reminiscent of the coastal forests that embrace the shoreline.

Created as a timeless unisex fragrance, Montecito is effortlessly elegant, refreshingly vibrant, and subtly seductive. A Personal Homage

A Fragrance Born of Inspiration

Some fragrances are remembered for a moment. Others become part of our lives, lingering in our memories long after the moment has passed.

My love affair with fine fragrance began many years ago, but one encounter in particular would leave an indelible impression upon me.

In 1985, I had the extraordinary pleasure of meeting the French perfumer Annick Goutal when she visited San Francisco to introduce her signature fragrance, Eau d'Hadrien, at I. Magnin & Company — where Laykin et Cie had a well-established salon. I remember listening to her describe the inspiration behind her creation, the passion that guided her, and the deeply personal journey of transforming an idea, a feeling, and a memory into something as intangible and yet as enduring as perfume.

I was captivated.

There was something remarkable about the elegance and simplicity of her approach. She had created a fragrance that was fresh, luminous, sophisticated, and unmistakably her own. I would wear Eau d'Hadrien for decades, and throughout those years, I carried with me the quiet ambition that one day I, too, might create a fragrance of my own.

Montecito is the realization of that ambition, and my personal homage to Annick Goutal.

In creating Montecito, I wanted to capture the extraordinary natural beauty of the Southern California coastline, where the brilliance of the Pacific meets the wooded hills and fragrant gardens of Montecito.

The fragrance opens with the sparkling vitality of lemon and tangerine, bright and refreshing, like the first rays of morning sunlight dancing across the ocean. At its heart, delicate hyacinth and rose mingle with the crisp freshness of apple, evoking the gardens, flowering landscapes, and gentle coastal breezes that make this part of California so enchanting. And beneath this luminous opening lies a warmer, more sensual foundation of cedarwood, woody amber, and musk — recalling the magnificent trees and coastal forests that embrace the California shoreline, lending the fragrance a quiet strength and enduring elegance.

I wanted Montecito to be neither overtly masculine nor traditionally feminine, but something more universal: a fragrance that celebrates beauty, vitality, and the simple pleasure of being alive.

Light, yet memorable. Refreshing, yet sensual. Elegant, without pretension.

Above all, I wanted it to be uplifting.

Even the bottle is a deliberate tribute to the fragrance that first inspired me, recalling the timeless proportions and understated elegance of the original Eau d'Hadrien.

Since introducing Montecito, I have been deeply gratified by the response. Men and women alike have embraced it with an enthusiasm that has exceeded my expectations. There is something particularly rewarding about creating a fragrance that speaks so naturally to so many different people.

Perhaps that is the elusive beauty of a truly memorable perfume.

In the world of fine gemstones, there are certain stones whose beauty transcends fashion, geography, and time. A magnificent diamond, perfectly cut, captures the light in a way that seems almost universal. Its brilliance needs no explanation. That is what I hoped to achieve with Montecito — a fragrance of clarity, light, and enduring beauty. Something that can be discovered, cherished, and remembered.

Only 500 bottles comprise this inaugural limited edition, each representing a small part of a dream that began with a chance encounter in San Francisco more than forty years ago.

Annick Goutal is no longer with us, but her inspiration endures.

And for me, Montecito is a way of saying thank you.
